CMW Inc. will build the county's new judicial center.
The Project Development Board, chaired by county Judge-Executive Rob Rothenburger, chose the Lexington architectural firm last week. The firm was one of three, including JRA Architects and Sherman, Carter and Barnhardt, which submitted to the panel designs of a prospective building based on a hypothetical site.

Fiscal Court takes up zone changes

Fiscal court approved one zone change and heard first reading on three others at its meeting Tuesday.
The court unanimously approved a Triple S Planning & Zoning Commission recommendation to change 7.2 acres at Shepard's Way and Seven Mile Pike from R, residential, to FC, flood plain conservation. County Judge-Executive Rob Rothenburger said the land is low-lying and subject to flooding. The FC designation will keep the land in green space.

Shelby County's unemployment rate is the lowest it has been since December 2004, and the head of the local industrial foundation thinks it's because Shelby Countians aren't afraid of a little hard work. Of Kentucky's 120 counties, Shelby County is tied for the sixth lowest rate. For May 2006, Jessamine, Shelby, Scott and Warren counties were all calculated at 4.4 percent.
